Use a WiFi router to increase the speed of your internet connection
At first this might sound remarkable, but it’s possible to increase the speed of your internet via your WiFi router. The only thing you’ll have to do is to correctly use the WiFi router. You’ll have to pay attention to the type of WiFi router that you buy and where to place it.
Choosing a WiFi router
These days, most people have an all-in-one package. Usually this package contains a free WiFi router that you can use. You don’t have any influence on what type of WiFi router you get, only where you place it. You can choose to buy a WiFi router yourself; this gives you full control over the WiFi router. For example; you can choose what frequency you want to use. WiFi routers work on two frequencies, 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Most WiFi routers only work on one of these two frequencies, especially the older models. Most of those won’t work on 5 GHz. However, there’s also WiFi routers that work on both frequencies and even routers that support the new WiFi 6 (802.11ax) protocol. When choosing a certain frequency, it’s important to know if all mobile devices with an internet connection, can connect on this frequency. Make sure that you know what frequency is used around your house, before you decide to buy a WiFi router.
Location of the WiFi router
Another factor that plays a role in the speed of your internet connection, is the WiFi router’s location. The WiFi router usually needs to be placed close to the source of the signal. In most cases this’ll be the meter cupboard. The closer to the meter cupboard, the better your connection will be. It’s also recommended not to place the WiFi router on the floor or somewhere high. This can worsen the connection.
